PATA Japan Chapter Background and Information

| 1952 |
PATA is established in Hawaii.
The Ministry of Transportation becomes a Government Member.
|
| 1963 |
The PATA Japan Chapter is established.
The Japan Tourist Association becomes the PATA Japan Chapter
Secretariat.

| 1972 |
The Japan National Tourist Organization becomes a Government
Member.
The Chairman of the JNTO becomes Chairman of the PATA Japan
Chapter.

| 2003 |
Due to reforms in the organization of JNTO, the PATA Japan
Chapter Secretariat
is transferred to a private company. Mr. Nobutaka Ishikure,
Executive Officer of
Japan Airlines, is appointed Chairman of the PATA Japan Chapter. |

PATA Japan Chapter Functions:
- Contact point between Japan Chapter members and PATA Headquarters/Regional
Chapters:
→ Distribution of translated releases from PATA HQ
→ Providing support for the various procedures related to
attending the PATA Annual General Meeting.
→ Distributing information related to PATA HQ and Regional
Chapter-sponsored activities.
- Implementing activities related to the promotion of Japanese
Inbound tourism:
→ Participating in major international travel trade shows
and seminars
→ Arranging familiarization trips for industry representatives
and networking opportunities
→ Organizing seminars for buyers from overseas
→ Organizing other inbound tourism-related seminars and workshops
- Implementing activities related to the promotion of the Japanese
overseas travel market:
→ Conducting seminars on specific destinations
→ Providing assistance in organizing press trips and industry
representative familiarization trips
→ Coordinating PATA HQ and Regional Chapter seminars on the
Japanese market and arranging speakers
→ Organizing other outbound tourism-related seminars and
workshops
- Creating a strong network and business opportunities for our
members (dinner parties, seasonal events, opinion exchange meetings,
etc.)
- Organizing activities to promote the travel industry in general.
PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association)
was established in Hawaii in 1951 with the aim of promoting
tourism in the Asia Pacific region and is the recognized authority
on Pacific Asia travel and tourism. With its Headquarters
in San Francisco, USA, and Operational Head Office in Bangkok,
Thailand, PATA has over 17,000 members from all over the world
in various fields including government tourist authorities,
airlines, travel agents, hotels, and publishing, marketing
and PR companies.
